5 STEP Summary of The Book "The Obesity Code"

It has been an insightful book and I have learnt many new thoughts regarding obesity in this book.

I am going to give my summary and also the author's summary.

First MY SUMMARY:
  1. I have been surprised by how many people are either doing or want to do Intermittent Fasting. Seems like everyone is looking for the missing key to health. What I want to tell them is this : Healthy food comes above all else. Fasting is an "add-on". I am surprised by how many would like to find a solution that skips the key secret of healthy food.
  2. The body's weight has a "set point" and if we want to lose weight we need to reset the set-point versus exercising for hours. Exercise helps but changing the set point is key
  3. In the super-hero world of weight loss, exercise is like Robin; diet is like Batman. It doesn't matter what Robin does, until Batman shows up.
  4. Eating high sugar, high carb foods make your body create more insulin. Insulin raises your body weight set point. Insulin also stores the extra glucose as fat in the body.
  5. Fasting is a tradition on most cultures. Fasting helps you burn the fat in your body. It also helps you detoxify. Eating 4 meals a day was not normal until 1960's. Previously most of civilization only had 3 meals a day. 

The author, Dr. Jason Fung's summary is as follows :
  1. REDUCE CONSUMPTION OF ADDED SUGARS
  2. REDUCE YOUR CONSUMPTION OF REFINED GRAINS
  3. MODERATE YOUR PROTEIN CONSUMPTION
  4. INCREASE YOUR CONSUMPTION OF NATURAL FATS
  5. INCREASE YOUR CONSUMPTION OF PROTECTIVE FACTORS LIKE FIBER AND VINEGAR


It has been an interesting read. At times it has been tough. But overall a great book to read.
